The journey of a thousand miles...

...begins with the first step, or so the proverb goes. After a few failed attempts at starting a blog, this time I've spent a substantial amount of time just selecting the right template and tweaking it here and there just to force myself to hold on to it a little longer than before.

Even as I write this, voices in my head debate my ability to sustain this blog. Writing to me is a time consuming task involving painstakingly constructing sentences that conform to the rules of grammar and word usage, rather than a natural gift. My thoughts do not automatically crystallize into sentences, neither do they give in easily to expression by the written word. I'm going ahead nonetheless because at this moment, I stand at the proverbial crossroads of life, at the brink of multiple adventures. Regardless of the dangers they conceal, the waters look inviting - and the prospect of recording it all seems highly attractive.

I call this blog 'Shooting The Moon', after that elusive 26th point in a game of Hearts during countless card sessions in college. This excerpt from Kipling's 'If' seemed a fitting end to a proper first post.

''If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!''

Till I figure out how to fix this damn template. Argh!
